Enter the Hot Wheels™ IndyCar Junior Grand Prix Powered by K1 Speed!
11 May 2018
We’re hosting an open karting competition at three K1 Speed centers (Indianapolis, Arlington, and Toronto) to determine the fastest junior racer. Three finalists from each location will win an all-expense paid trip to Northern California where they’ll be mentored by an IndyCar driver before entering the championship race at our San Francisco location. All finalists will then travel to Sonoma to catch the IndyCar season finale!
Here’s How It Works:
Each location will host a qualifying round to determine the fastest three racers. It begins with a practice race, before each kid enters a 10-lap qualifying race. Your junior racer will need to set one of the two fastest times in the qualifying race in order to advance. The 12 fastest juniors will then enter the 12-lap final race – a race for position on the track! The junior racers that finish in the top three of the final race will become a finalist and will then compete in the championship race in San Francisco! There’s a one in 20 chance they’ll be walking away with a trip to California they’ll never forget!
When are the Qualifying Rounds?
The qualifying rounds will take place right before the respective IndyCar races in that city:
- Indianapolis: May 24th (before the Indy 500)
- Arlington: June 7th (before the weekend of the Texas Motor Speedway race)
- Toronto: July 13th (Before the Indy Toronto race)
What Do the Finalists Win?
You’re going to be blown away by everything these three finalists receive at each location! First, the finalist will receive some pretty cool goodies: a trophy and a killer swag bag! Then, each finalist and a parent/guardian will win a roundtrip flight to San Francisco, where they’ll enjoy a two-night stay in the area for the Championship Race. After the championship race, the finalist and their parent/guardian will spend three nights in the Sonoma area, and will receive two tickets to the IndyCar Grand Prix of Sonoma. Oh, and we’re also going to be giving the finalist $900 in spending money to enjoy on the trip! It’s a total prize package worth close to $5,000! Wowza!
What’s the Championship Race?
The championship race at K1 Speed, San Francisco will be held the evening of September 13th, 2018. The three finalists from each location will have an IndyCar mentor to help guide them to success: Indy’s finalists will have fan favorite James Hinchcliffe, Arlington’s finalists will have reigning IndyCar champion Josef Newgarden, and Toronto’s finalists will have the exciting Canadian rookie Robert Wickens!
The nine finalists will start with six practice laps before the 12-lap final championship race to determine the champion of the 2018 Hot Wheels IndyCar Junior Grand Prix Powered by K1 Speed! The winner will receive the championship trophy, while second and third place finishers will receive a plaque – all will be incredibly impressive to have in their trophy case!
